Giving opportunities

Express your values and respond to unmet community needs

The following programs present key opportunities for donors to meet emerging and unmet needs in the Jewish community.

The staff and leadership of the Foundation would like you to consider funding the following, fully or in part:

Jewish Education

Bureau of Jewish Education: Tuition Assistance

A child living in the East Bay entering first grade at Ronald C. Wornick Jewish Day School in the Fall after completing a year in the kindergarten program is in need of tuition assistance. The child is thriving at the school, and his mother would like to commit to long-term (K-8) Jewish education. For more information on the family's situation, you may contact The Jewish Community Foundation. $2000 was the original grant request; a grant of $500 has already been made from a donor-advised philanthropic fund of the Foundation.

Funding request: $1500 from the Foundation to fulfill the original request of $2000.

Temple Isaiah: Shining a Light on Mental Health

Temple Isaiah is planning a conference on mental health issues to be held on Sunday, January 28, 2008 to begin to create a communal climate of knowledge-based acceptance, caring and compassion for people with mental illness. The conference will include the sharing of wisdom from the Jewish tradition, from mental health professionals and from the perspective of those affected by mental illness and their families and caregivers. It will feature a keynote address, panels of experts and the opportunity for break-out groups to address concerns such as adolescent issues, mental health advocacy, treatment options and on-going support groups in the Jewish community. The conference will be open to all Jewish communal organizations in the East Bay.

Funding request: $3,000 from the Foundation to defray the costs of the conference.
