Each fall, the Foundation joins with the Jewish Community
Federation of the Greater East Bay to seek and award grants
for projects and operating support for non-profits serving
the East Bay Jewish community in areas such as Jewish education,
social services and community outreach.
Funding for the Joint Grants process comes from the Federations
Annual Campaign, the Foundation's Permanent Community
Endowment and restricted funds, and from individual Foundation
donors who recommend grants through their donor-advised funds
and supporting foundations. Grants support projects for the
calendar year and are awarded as of January 1.
Grants from the Foundation's Permanent Community Endowment
and field of interest provide:
- funding for creative solutions to diverse communal concerns
- responses to the community's changing needs
- seed money for innovative one-time projects and start-up
endeavors,
- fund the enhancement and continuation of successful community
programs, and
- furnish emergency funding for critical occurrences.
The Foundation will fund programs and services which:
- enhance Jewish continuity;
- deepen Jewish identity;
- promote life-long Jewish learning; and
- contribute to the spiritual, emotional and physical well-being
of Jewish community members
Projects funded by the Foundation will be assessed on the
extent to which they:
- address these objectives,
- promote collaboration between institutions,
- provide broad based service to the Jewish community
- and have financial participation of the applying organization
and/or other funders.
Members of the Grants Committee (consisting of lay leaders
from both The Jewish Community
Foundation and the Jewish
Community Federation of the East Bay) will review and
rate proposals, and make recommendations for grants at the
December meetings of the Foundation and Federation Boards.
In addition to the Grants Committee review, eligible proposals
will be presented to the Foundation's donor representatives
for consideration from supporting family foundations and philanthropic
donor advised funds.
