Tuition Assistance Fund

One-third of Tehiyah’s 315 students receive tuition assistance. The need for financial support has recently significantly increased. Scholarships help present Jewish children with their spiritual heritage and can change the Jewish demographic landscape.

 

Midrashot System
Student Financial Aid

A successful collaborative and inclusive communal program, Midrasha faces substantial annual requests for financial aid for our wide variety of educational offerings. This grant will help maintain the Midrasha policy of never turning away any student for any program because of an inability to pay.

2006 Kohn Summer Intern Program

For the 2006 Kohn Summer Intern Program, JVS will recruit and place up to 33 college students from the San Francisco and JCFGEB areas in eight-week internships in Jewish communal agencies to develop future leadership for the Jewish community.

Twenty-Something Engagement Initiative

Through cultural, educational, community service and social programming, Hillel will engage Jewish East Bay twenty-somethings—grad students and young adults—at a critical stage in their lives and serve to increase their involvement in the larger Jewish community.

Scholarship Support

OHDS provides scholarships to 35% of our students, with a higher number of students enrolled and requiring financial aid in 2005-06. This grant will make a Jewish day school education more accessible and affordable to all families who want this experience for their child.

For the many unaffiliated, elderly, disabled, and others who face financial or emotional barriers to membership, the Community Rabbi Program (CRP) offers spiritual and religious outreach. This grant will provide staff support to enable the CRP to move towards financial self-sufficiency.

To expand our services to students with diagnosed manageable learning differences, this grant will help to extend the number of students served by a respected local Learning Specialist who comes to CCJDS for individual sessions with students.

 

Camp Kadima
Jewish Community Day Camp

Camp Kadima will expand our La’atid program for 7th & 8th grade campers; increase staff development, and expand enrollment and promotion for this in-demand program. Camper recruitment will be expanded to reach more of the unaffiliated families in the East Bay.

California Association of Independent Schools Membership

CCJDS is now eligible to apply for membership in the California Association of Independent Schools (C.A.I.S.), which begins with a lengthy and intensive review, compiling a great deal of information for a series of visiting teams and following through on recommendations throughout the process. This grant would provide a stipend to an individual who will be their C.A.I.S. Member Chair.

 

Shalom Bayit
Love Shouldn't Hurt

Love Shouldn’t Hurt is a youth-led healthy relationships education program for Jewish teens and young adults. The proposed project is to implement abuse prevention companion workshops for parents and Jewish educators; and to develop and publish the program as the first Jewish teen dating violence curriculum in the country.

Jewish Music Festival (BRJCC)
21st Annual Jewish Music Festival

JMF includes concerts of internationally and nationally known artists; participatory events such as dances, instrumental "jams," and a Community Music Day, highlighting local musicians, and also a school and community outreach program, bringing Jewish music to public schools and organizations throughout the Bay Area.

 

Mills College
Kol Isha: Jewish Women's Voices Unbound

This collaborative project will focus on Jewish women by helping to shape new work on Jewish women’s creative and scholarly work that is emerging from all corners of the world. In February 2006 Mills will launch the series with a conference of noted Jewish women writers, poets, speakers, and performers with scholarly panels and workshops.

 

Jewish Family & Children's Services of the East Bay
Holocaust Survivor Case Management Services

To provide case management services to the increasingly frail population of Holocaust survivors whom we serve in both counties, enabling people to live at home with improved access to health care, caregiver support and community contact. These services will augment JFCS's existing program of restitution assistance, financial assistance, and Café Europa socialization activities.

Gerontological Nurse Practitioner

To support the services of a Gerontological Nurse Practitioner 4 hours per week on our assisted living unit. In addition to resident, staff, and family education, the GNP will act as liaison to coordinate medical, nursing and psycho-social issues ensuring residents receive the interventions necessary to maintain their highest level of functioning.

 

Israel Center
Strengthening our Gan by Bringing Israel Home

Following on the success of our 2003-04 funded project, Bridges to Israel, the Israel Center will hire an early childhood consultant to work with each East Bay Jewish preschool to enhance their Israel-oriented curriculum and skills designed specifically for the needs of its particular program.

To provide an interfaith component to the Early Childhood program of the Contra Costa Jewish Community Center, through a three-month, twice monthly program integrated into the Preschool, but open to the entire community, inviting interfaith families with young children to explore Jewish practice in their homes through shared values.

 

Israel Center
11th Annual Contra Costa International Jewish Film Festival

Through the screening of two films—Live and Become and Campfire—Israel Center expects to strengthen our community’s ties to Israel (including a targeted Jewish teen population), and to educate the general community as well as a targeted audience of donors about the importance of the American Jewish community’s partnering with Israel to aid in the immigration, absorption and education of Ethiopian Jewry.
